Mrs. Meena Sivakumar-Dance Director
Meena Sivakumar has her Masters in Science in psychotherapy. She is a counseling psychotherapist and a motivational speaker. She is a Medical Language specialist with 18 years experience in the field of Medical Transcription and has held many designations. She has worked for many MNCs and for US hospitals. She has trained and placed more than 500 medical transcriptionists under her own training centre Medtrans Unlimited. She is a practicing Counseling Psychotherapist. Her passion for dancing has not decreased in spite of her other professional career.
Her education was at St.Josephs higher secondary school and Nirmala College, which has staged her in all their programs. She inculcated her passion for dance in her daughter who is successfully taking forward this art in Bangalore in the name of The Nandinis dance Academy.
Along with her accolades in the field of Medical Transcription and psychotherapy, she took her passion for dance by teaching the Indian Classical dance Bharathanatyam. her aim is to make anyone who has a desire to dance to learn it. Many would have wished to dance when they were young, many would have stopped half way for some reason. At Shivas they can pursue or resume dancing.
There is no age limit for dancing. Movements are choreographed to suit their physical limitations without compromising on the sastras of Bharathanatyam. homemakers and professionals train at Shivas, to either relive their childhood or to grasp their missed opportunity in childhood.
Smt. Meena Sivakumar is a renowned Guru in the Pandanallur style of Bharatanatyam. She started learning dance under Guru Ramaswamy of Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan since age 8. Her arrengetram was she was 11 years of age at Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha functioning at Purandaradasar Hall, RS Puram. Since then she has performed on many stages and still performs. She has 40 years of experience in teaching Bharatanatyam.
She is a classical Bharatanatyam dance Guru, passionate about passing on the Indian heritage to the present generation by teaching dance.
She also teaches Naatupura Dances of Tamil Nadu Karagaatam, Mayillatam, oyilaatam, Kummi, and the like.
What does a Guru mean? A mentor? A teacher? A guide? A friend? All of these put together? Yes it is she who mixes up well with all age groups.
